Tauky followed Charles's eyes to his tummy, He swung his head up to look back at Charles. He let out a cry resembling the noise a calf makes when it's taken away from its mother. He pulled his shirt down much further than needed, and squeezed himself into a ball; sobbing ensued.
"Ah, I- I'm sorry!" His face was filled with worry.
wait a second. what did I do? He wondered.
"What's wrong?" He went to touch Tauky.
"why are you upset?"
"No! Don't. Please..please..." He pushed himself away from Charles.
"I won't hurt you. I promise." Charles whispered comfortingly. It didn't work, Tauky continued crawling away, and was getting increasingly louder with his sobs.
"come now, tell me what's the matter." He reached out and grabbed Tauky and pulled him onto his lap. He squirmed very little considering the state he was in.
